The #1 Secret to Increase Productivity

My Secret Method to Increase Productivity (it’s not what you think)

I was just talking to a friend about a personal situation that’s negatively affecting him, and it inspired me to write this blog post. He wasn’t asking how to increase productivity, but it is a side effect of the solution I proposed to him. Thank you for the inspiration :-)

If you’re wondering what qualifies me to write this post, it’s dead simple: I work 12 hours a day, and achieve 24 hours worth of work in those 12 hours. I handle all customer support for my company, answering over 100 requests per day, develop our website, and write sales copy and develop products and product launches. Can I improve? Yes. I’d love to get 3 days’ worth of work done in 6 hours instead of 12. But for now it’s a damn good starting point, and if you want to increase productivity you can probably learn a thing or two from me :)

Increase Productivity By Managing Yourself

Do you find yourself unable to focus? Are you lacking the motivation you once had? Do you feel like your confidence isn’t quite what it used to be? Do you wish you could get more done in a day? Look no further…

Classic time management principles still apply, and they always will. Maintain a to-do list. Schedule your week in advance. Exercise. Eat healthy. Remove yourself from distractions (schedule time for phone calls, facebook, email, etc.) But on top of all that, there’s one very important thing you didn’t think of.

The Big Tip: Increase Productivity By Tying Loose Ends

This is what I believe to be the number one secret to being productive. If you have a hard time focusing or just don’t feel good about yourself, it’s probably because you have some loose ends in your life. “Unfinished business”. Everybody has them, but they become a huge burden the longer you allow them to linger. Subconsciously and energetically, they are a drain. They can lower productivity by up to 95% and keep you from being able to focus and love and accept yourself. Do you have unfinished business in your life? Have you let somebody down? Have you let yourself down? Make the phone calls you’ve been meaning to make, and complete the goals you left buried in your closet.

What do you think? What are your top productivity boosters? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Leave your comments in the facebook section below, and make the phone call you’ve been meaning to make. If you don’t feel great afterwards, call me out in the comments and let all your friends know I’m full of sh*t.

Nice post Russell. My biggest obstacle has been the demands of the outside world. Outside of my family, home, and computer I have avoided committing to anything. Still active in the community but I will not take on any managerial tasks.
Moments of online overwhelm are the perfect time to get out and do other things that have to be done. Yard work, pet walking/grooming, going to work(contract janitor) – all of these things are mindless tasks and allow me to work out any problems I’m having online in my head.
By the time I return to my task at hand I feel rejuvenated and full of creative ideas.
