Hey,
I’ve been away from the blog for about a week, so I asked myself
“what can I blog about that will really be valuable to my readers?”
After working on the launch of a popular video marketing coaching program all week, it hit me that I should just share what I’ve learned about generating new business and making money on youtube.
To me, youtube is pretty intimidating. I’ve been told I’m naturally talented and have a great camera presence but even I get nervous on camera, so when you combine that with the fact that you still have to not only record a video but also turn it into money, youtube can get rather complicated.
Plus everyone who compliments me is probably just being NICE, right?
That being said, there are actually some really cool and easy ways you can make simple videos that cost you NOTHING and you don’t even have to show your face or use your voice on the video… but you can still make money.
That’s pretty cool, and I think there’s actually a huge advantage here because people who are utilizing video marketing are making more money and have more freedom than people who aren’t. My reasoning for this is that the fears and limiting beliefs that keep most people from making videos cause there to be a lot less competition online with video marketing, and by overcoming your fears you naturally evolve while you enter this unlimited field of opportunity.
It’s really cool, and I think it will help you alot, so here’s a simple 3-step process I’ve learned that will enable you to make money on youtube without having to get on camera and overcome your fears:
1. Identify Your Audience
This is the most important part, but most people leave it out. Look, it’s really simple: either you can decide who you want to attract and find more of those people in your life, or you don’t and you attract all the idiots and assholes you don’t want to hang out with. The choice is yours.
Look at it this way: if you want to go on a picnic, you probably won’t go searching for people to do that with at a biker bar. The same goes for online marketing. You’ve got to figure out what kind of person you want to be with, and then picking out where to go is pretty simple.
So feel good about yourself. Know that there’s an abundance of the perfect viewer for you. Visualize the perfect client for yourself, and get to know his or her hobbies. Don’t stop until you feel like you know this person like a good friend, at this point you’re ready to talk to them about products and actually be listened to.
2. Do Basic Keyword Research
I hate this part, but you gotta do it. Go to the Google Keyword Tool. Search for the product that you’re promoting. See what keywords people are searching for, and then pick out which ones are actually being searched by your average perfect client (the person you want to attract). Choose a keyword phrase with moderate competition, and use this phrase in your video title, description, and tags. This is seriously the one part of marketing that isn’t fun but it’s really worth it to take the extra time to do it.
3. Make a Free Jing or Animoto Video and Share it On Youtube
Now all you have to do is talk to your average perfect client (remember: visualize and talk to that person’s WANTS and NEEDS like he or she is a REAL PERSON), and you can do it with free software. Jing will let you record a 5 minute screen-capture video for free (great for you to talk and show a sales page in the background), and animoto will make cool little animated presentations for you. Pick which one you want to use and go for it. Personally, I prefer screen capture so I choose Jing.
Simple as it sounds, that’s it. I knew nothing about video marketing other than marketing to my existing list on video and I quickly generated 3 affiliate referrals during my first 30 days, using a 2 minute video that I royally screwed the seo on and said the wrong links in, using NO existing list and a BRAND NEW youtube account. That being said, I would have done a much better job if I wasn’t so lazy and actually took the time to learn what I was doing and I think that if you take the time to study and implement youtube marketing techniques you will quickly give my case study a run for its money.
Keep It Real

Have you personally made any money using videos on youtube? If so how much? Did Gabe Strom really generate 324,000 in sales for a client of his? Was it another ‘product’ that was really just “HOW TO MAKE MONEY” and charging for it? Please be real.
Nope
All I can say is “I LIKE”.
I think I found your Youtube video about how to make money on Youtube by googling something like “how do I get to the first page of Youtube”. I loved your video. I loved your style and the simplicity of it all.
I am going to follow your stuff. I like you.
Now that I buttered you up enough, quick question – If I have a video with 460 views and some other shmoe has a video with 20 views and we’re both using the same keyword in our title and tags, how come his video is right ABOVE mine? What’s the secret here? Mine is also a month old vs. his two weeks old. What am I missing here?
In any event, thanks for your content. It IS good stuff!
Dena
@Dena is he in the number one spot and you’re in number two? Google is always split-testing videos and links against eachother to see what order generates the most click-throughs
I’m talking about the Youtube order of results. I have a video under my username “Batyaboo”. In the title of the video I have the word “Marvalous”, which is the product I’m promoting. When I do a search in Youtube for the word “Marvalous” my video shows up in the 20th (!!!) place. My video currently has almost 600 views. 90% of the videos that show up above mine have way less views (42, 53 etc.). I cannot figure this out for the life of me. Is there some secret place to put tags that assure you of a high rank in Youtube? What’s the point in doing nice video clips if people have to scroll 10 times down to see them?
Thanks!!
